We are a Midhurst based charity founded in 1983 that provides transport and social activities for the not so young and not so able. The core of Tandem’s work is providing door-to-door transport to and from doctors, dentists, opticians and hospital appointments. A Tandem volunteer takes the person there and back by car or in a wheelchair equipped vehicle, depending on need.
RECRUITMENT DRIVE - VOLUNTEERS
To maintain our valuable service, we have reached a point where we need to ask for extra help.
DRIVERS - the lifeblood of the operation. All you need to give is a few hours, as and when it suits your lifestyle. You can use your own car and we will pay you a mileage allowance. Plus, we need Minibus Drivers for our day trips.
ESCORTS - for our day trips. If you are available on some Wednesday's or Thursday's, every other week and you enjoy going out and about, then this is for you!
GENERAL HELP - for just a few hours every Tuesday afternoon at our weekly get together, where you can have fun and cup of tea!!
Please, ACT NOW, if you have some time to spare and would like to support your local community. You'll be working with a great bunch of people already committed to this and I'm sure you'll find it rewarding.

Transport for medical appointments
If you live in the Midhurst or Petworth area, we can help!

How it works
It's simple - you just call us with details of your medical or dental appointment and we arrange everything else!
Our friendly volunteers will collect you from your home, take you to your appointment and take you back home again afterwards.
We make a modest mileage charge which you pay to your volunteer driver.

Join our Tuesday Social Club
Meet up with other people, play board games or cards, read the paper or, of course, enjoy tea, cake and a chat.

Come with us on a Tandem outing
We take accompanied groups on day trips to stately homes, museums, impressive gardens, flower festivals, shopping venues and more!
We pick you up from your home (Midhurst/Petworth area), take you to the venue, then on to enjoy a day out in good company before taking you back home.
All of our outings are suitable for able-bodied people and most of our outings are suitable for wheelchair and rollator users. Carers are always welcome to come too.
Fees are £10/year to join the club plus the cost of each trip.

Volunteering opportunities at Tandem
We are run entirely by volunteers and we are always in need of people to help us.
We currently need:
- Drivers to take people to medical appointments
- Minibus drivers and Escorts to help with our outings programme
- A volunteer coordinator to help coordinate the requests for medical trasnport and finding drivers to help.
- Help at the Tuesday Social Club.
One of the joys of volunteering with Tandem is that there is no set time required, you can offer as much or as little as you like, to fit in with your life.
